Gamification, the use of gaming elements such as progression bars, leaderboards and badges in marketing activations enables customers to engage with brands in a fun and memorable way. For this project, we were tasked with making a treasure hunt game for Dewar’s Double Double 36 premium whisky release.

Encouraging users to explore the store

To begin the treasure hunt located at Dewar’s airport store-in-stores, the users scan a QR code that opens the web app. It instructs them to find and scan 4 markers hidden throughout the store. This encourages the user to explore the store and interact with Dewar’s brand and products in a fun way, thus building a lasting impression. At the end of the treasure hunt, the users are rewarded with a secret prize.

The experience was built using MindAR and uses custom images as AR markers which are quickly recognized by the web app. This way, any custom design can be used as a marker, allowing the scavenger hunt to be incorporated into the store in an unobtrusive way.
